Belmont's Hospitality Charity Fund
It is always a joy to receive flowers and chocolates or a good bottle of wine from your guests as a token of their appreciation for your hospitality. However, a few members of the community felt that the money spent on these lovely gifts could be used in a more beneficial way and decided to set up a fund for this purpose. The first project quickly raised enough (£360) to purchase a much-needed basic wheelchair for the Reuth Medical and Rehabilitation Centre in Tel Aviv where the vast majority of patients are wheelchair users. This was followed by a collection for the Laniado Hospital in Netanya to purchase a neo-natal cot for £500. This was followed by Jewish Blind and Disabled as the next recipients of our donations, where we raised £530 to purchase two door remotes for two of its residents. Most recently we raised £535 to enable us to purchase a waterproof iPad for AKIM Haifa.
Following a talk given at shul a short while ago by Eli Beer, founder and president of United Hatzola, we propose purchasing a full medical kit (cost £500) for Hatzola Edgware.
What is particularly pleasing about this fund is that these relatively small donations (£5-£10) accumulate in a short space of time, the equipment is purchased and is very soon in use. We think small – our goals are quickly achieved and together we can make a real difference to people’s lives.
