Belmont Hospitality (& more) Fund
It is, of course, always a joy to receive gifts from guests and loved ones as a token of their appreciation for your warm hospitality or in celebration of a special event. However, several members of the community felt that the money spent on these lovely items could be used in a more beneficial way and decided to set up a fund for this purpose.
Since the Belmont Hospitality (&more) Fund began in 2016, almost £4,500 has been raised and the following charities have benefitted:
The Israel Guide Dog Centre is our current project. When we asked Martin Segal, Executive Director of IGDC UK, which equipment we could buy, without hesitation he asked for harnesses for the dogs. The cost of each one is £140 and we aim to purchase four of these much needed items. Martin explains:
"The Israel Guide Dog Centre is dedicated to improving the quality of life of blind, visually impaired and disabled people. We provide them with mobility, independence, self-confidence and companionship through the faithful assistance of guide, emotional support and PTSD dogs specially trained in Hebrew to meet Israel's rigorous and challenging environment. Guide dogs require about two years of training with each one costing approximately £45,000 to fully train. A proper harness that enables good communication between the blind person and the dog is an important factor in the animal's comfort and well-being."
More information about the work of the Centre can be found on its website - the 2020 promotional video gives a good understanding about this charity's life-changing work.
Donations may be made either online direct to IGDC UK (please use the message box to reference "Belmont Hospitality Fund") or via Jacqueline Segal.
For more information on how to donate or to nominate a charity, please contact Jacqueline Segal (020 8954 3296) or Russell Kett.
