Reopening of our Shul for services
It is over three months since, following the guidance of the Chief Rabbi and the United Synagogue, we closed the Shul to keep members safe. During that period, we have provided a wide-ranging programme to keep in touch with all our members and many of you have been able to participate and enjoy.
As the lockdown is easing, the guidance from the Chief Rabbi, United Synagogue and the government is changing and we are preparing to reopen the Shul for services. But the Covid-19 virus still presents a threat and we are being very cautious in the steps we are taking.
We are pleased to let you know that our first services will be weekday Mincha and Ma’ariv starting on Sunday 12 July. Those services will take place outside. We will then trial Shacharit services inside the Shul on Sunday 19 July, before re-launching Shabbat services. We expect that it will take several weeks before we are holding all our services.
Under the guidance of a working party, we are making extensive preparations to make sure that the Shul is ‘Covid-secure’. As a result, services will feel very different from what we are all used to. What you can expect is set out in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Importantly, if you wish to attend any service you will need to book in advance. The FAQs explain how to do this.
Reopening the Shul for services is a very exciting time for the community but we must do this in a way which is as safe as possible for everyone. We want to thank you for your patience over the past months, ask for your continued understanding and look forward to welcoming you back to Shul services soon.
Rabbi Levene has recorded a video of to show the community what it is now like in Shul and to explain what it will be like if and when you come to attend a service. You will find that video here.
The Chief rabbi has recorded a special message which you can watch here.

Inside the shul
We have started to lay out the Shul for services. As you will see from this slideshow we have moved the bimah to the front of the Shul and spaced the chairs 2m apart in every direction. More preparations are needed before we can start to hold services inside the Shul, so our first services will be outside.
